Powering down – does your phone really make a difference?

If phones are eventually permitted during takeoff & landing, it will still be better to book your luggage delivery service before departure-or book online.

“Please power down all electronic devices.” Ever heard this before? Since as far back as 1990, the use of cell phones on flights has been banned for fear that they would interfere with the plane’s instruments and cause accidents. But how many of us actually power down our devices for a flight?

A recent survey found around four out of 10 US air passengers admitted they don’t always turn their gadgets off on flights, which begs the question, is there really any harm in keeping them on? There is an almost worldwide consensus on regulations that ban the use of portable electronic devices below around 3,000 m (10,000 ft). But are these fears scientifically grounded, or just airline myths in need of revision?

The fear of interference comes from the fact that gadgets connect to the internet or to mobile phone networks using radio waves. Though the ban is still in effect, a study done by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2006 could not find a correlation between phone use and flight accidents. However, they were also unable to prove conclusively that phones did not lead to accidents and the ban has remained in effect. But while definite proof may be lacking, there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that the risks should be taken seriously. A report summarizing 50 cases of safety issues thought to have been caused by personal electronic devices, was published in January this year.

So where does this leave us? Richard Taylor, a spokesman of the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority, believes it is just a matter of time before we see more widespread use of mobile devices on aircraft, but that calls will remain banned during take-off or landing for the foreseeable future. With this in mind, just make sure that you conduct any important matters needing your mobile device before you get on you board your plane. That includes booking your Bags VIP luggage delivery service, as long as you book your delivery at least one hour before your scheduled flight’s departure.

History of Luggage and Luggage Delivery

The history of luggage and luggage delivery is fascinating. From wooden chests to modern day luggage, we tell the story of luggage's evolution.

Love it or hate it, luggage is an integral part of almost every vacation or trip you will take. Everyone has luggage, and everyone uses luggage, but most people don’t know anything about how luggage has changed over time or its history. We tend to think of luggage in terms of the sleek, wheeled, and lightweight cases we see today. However, luggage has been used for centuries, and was very different up until just a short time ago.

According to The Oxford English Dictionary the word ‘luggage’ enters printed English in 1596. The word derives from lug (v.) “to drag” and literally means, “that which needs to be lugged about.” For most of history, luggage commonly came in the form of chests or trunks made of wood, ivory, or other heavy materials.

Due to their bulk and weight, these chests and trunks would be shipped by professional movers. It was not until the end of World War II that smaller and more lightweight suitcases and bags that are carried on your person became the more popular and acceptable form of taking your possessions along on a trip.

While steamship travel in the past required luggage to be strong, waterproof and sturdy for journeys, bags and luggage needed to be quite the opposite for plane trips. Zips replaced clasps, suitcases were no longer required to be waterproof, and wheels and towing handles became more commonplace features in luggage design. Travelers now carry their own cases in transit – and the old fashioned porters have become a thing of the past.

With Bags VIP luggage delivery service, you get a proven service on which you can rely. Your luggage travels with you and there's no need to ship it ahead. While luggage has had many amazing transformations in the past, we saved the best improvement for last. In 2012, Bags launched its now nationally recognized and used Bags VIP luge delivery service to help travelers across the country Make Travel Easier. Bags and Dreamflight 2014

Every year, Bags volunteers its luggage delivery service to Dreamflight, which brings critically ill children to Orlando for the vacation of a lifetime.Every year, the U.K. based charity Dreamflight sends 192 very deserving children with a serious illness or disability on the holiday of a lifetime to Orlando, Florida. Accompanied by health care professionals and other volunteers, these courageous children ages 8-14 board a chartered Boeing 747 aircraft to begin a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the sunshine state for 10 magical days of fun and excitement.

Every year, Bags volunteers its luggage delivery service to Dreamflight, which brings critically ill children to Orlando for the vacation of a lifetime.Upon arrival in Orlando, the children are treated to a water salute aboard the aircraft followed by an Orange County Police escort from the airport to the hotel. The next 10 days are filled with adventures at Walt Disney World®, Universal Orlando®, SeaWorld® Orlando, and Discovery Cove. The entire experience is a wonderful and indispensable escape from the reality — with activities ranging from meeting Disney characters to swimming with dolphins at Discovery Cove.

Since 2009, Bags® has volunteered its luggage delivery service to this extraordinary cause. Each year, we retrieve and deliver all baggage between the airport and hotels at arrival and departure. It’s our small way of contributing to a valuable occasion where children can develop confidence, independence, and a new outlook on life as they develop relationships with other children experiencing similar challenges.

The 2014 Cattle Barons’ Ball was held last Saturday at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort. The event is the signature gala for the American Cancer Society in Central Florida, and was chaired by Bags Inc. Senior Vice President Gene Muhart.

More than 1000 cowboys and cowgirls donned their finest denim, boots with spurs, and ten-gallon hats to kick up their heels and enjoy a hootin’ and hollerin’ evening to raise money in the ongoing pursuit of a cure for cancer. Guests, sponsors, donors, and volunteers helped raise funds that make the ultimate difference in the lives of those who are coping with cancer.

Central Florida resorts participated as well, including Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Rosen Plaza Hotel, and Rosen Shingle Creek.

Guests bid on more than 200 silent auction items and a live auction. Packages included two seven-night stays at five-star Six Senses Resorts in the Maldives and Oman. Another live auction package included round-trip airfare, hotel vouchers and VIP tickets to LIVE with Kelly & Michael!

The search for a cure for cancer is close to the heart of Event Chair Gene Muhart:

“My mother fought her battle with cancer for many years with great courage, strength, and faith. Unfortunately, she lost her battle when I was 18 and was unable to fulfill her dream of raising her children. I volunteer for the American Cancer Society in honor of my mother and to help put an end to the suffering that families go through when fighting this terrible disease.”

As the world’s largest single-night fundraiser for cancer research through the American Cancer Society, the Cattle Barons’ Ball is quickly becoming one of Central Florida’s most highly anticipated annual fundraising events. The evening’s festivities raised more than $425,000 that will go toward cancer research, patient support, prevention, education, detection, and treatment.

Bags Inc. is proud to support, through our charity efforts, organizations like the American Cancer Society. From searching for a cure to creating awareness to offering moral support, the ACS is making a difference in the lives of others every day.

We are excited to announce that the very popular Early Bag Check service at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has expanded to their Rental Car Center. From skipping the hassles of shipping luggage by using our Bags VIP luggage delivery service to checking your bags the moment you arrive at the airport, travel is now easier for passengers at PHX.

The free Early Bag Check service, already available at Sky Harbor’s East Economy Parking and 44th Street PHX Sky Train® station, officially launched at the Car Center in February of this year and has already seen much success.

With this service, travelers using American Airlines, Southwest Airlines or US Airways are now able to check their bags right after they return their rental car, eliminating the need to carry all their luggage onto the free shuttle bus that transports passengers from the Car Rental Center to PHX’s three terminals.

Travelers flying these airlines can also have their boarding passes printed for them directly at the Rental Car Center Early Bag Check station.

Bags must be checked at least 90 minutes before their flight is scheduled to depart. There is no additional charge for the service, although airline baggage fees apply. Early Bag Check in the Sky Harbor Rental Car Center is open daily from 5 a.m. – 6 p.m.
